Minimalist furniture and accessories for the Nordic minimalist interior from this iconic Danish designer
Kristina Dam Studio has been a well-loved favorite ever since we introduced her collection in January 2020.
We get excited about every new addition, which is why we’re sharing the latest pieces in our ever-growing Kristina Dam Studio collection.
Who is Kristina Dam?
Kristina Dam Studio was founded in 2012 by Kristina Dam, a Copenhagen-based graphic designer and architect. She works closely with business partner Chim Scavenius Sonne-Schmidt, who handles sales and other business things while she leads the creative side.
Kristina Dam graduated from The Royal Danish School of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design, a well-known start for many Danish designers. The first product she introduced was a series of limited edition illustrations that quickly became popular.
Now, Kristina Dam Studio introduces two new collections each year, collaborating with both talented upcoming designers and established designers on new pieces for the home.
Kristina Dam Studio’s mission is to merge art and interior through furniture, prints, illustrations, and sculptures. All materials are honest and carefully selected, including brass, marble, mirror, oak, steel, and glass. Each design starts with a simple cardboard mock-up, followed by testing and adjustments. Each piece originates from Kristina’s personal passion for design and art.
Kristina Dam finds inspiration through her travels, on Pinterest, on blogs, social media, and by simply talking to people.
“Seeing my design in people’s homes makes me very proud,” Kristina Dam says.
Now, let’s take a look at designs that will make you feel proud to have in your own home!
Kristina Dam Furniture
Kristina Dam furniture embraces the home through clean and crisp lines, a simple color palette, and super-soft fabrics.
Each piece exudes tangible and honest design for the modern interior.
Made with durable steel and a weather-resistant powder coating, the Bauhaus Lounge Bench can be styled either indoors or outdoors, adding architectural character wherever it’s styled. It’s one of several Bauhaus-inspired pieces from Kristina Dam that is both minimal and comfortable. Make it a statement piece in an outdoor living space, a comfortable resting place in a bedroom, or as the main seating in a living room. The options are endless!
Dine in comfort and style––inside or outside––with the Bauhaus Dining Chair. Shown here in beige, this dining chair is a lovely sculptural seating option that is perfect for use as a dining chair or even an accent chair in a bedroom or lounge area. For added comfort, take a look at the Bauhaus Lounge Chair.
Complete the look with the stunning Bauhaus Dining Table. The black and beige pairs together perfectly (and minimally). The round table is beautifully minimal and can seat several people comfortably. Like all Bauhaus pieces from Kristina Dam, this piece is durable enough to be used outside but works just as well indoors. Add a simple and versatile way to serve drinks and food with the rolling Bauhaus Trolley.
The Modernist furniture collection takes notions of modern design while keeping Kristina Dam Studio’s distinctive design touch.
The Modernist Sofa, available in either a grey wool material or a beige bouclé, features a comfortable and durable foam. The upholstery features lovely curves that are defined by a striking stainless steel frame, making this couch a perfect balance of soft and industrial. If you have a spacious living area, pair this 3-seater sofa with the 2-seater Modernist Sofa. Both of these pieces are available for pre-order, shipping in late August 2021 (believe us when we say they’re worth the wait!).
Pair the Modernist Sofa with the Modernist Lounge Chair for a cohesive look, or style this modern lounge chair alongside other textures already in your modern interior. We love the neutrality and warmth of both the soft grey wool material and the fuzzy beige bouclé that is defined so thoughtfully with the stainless steel frame. (Just like the sofas, this lounge chair will ship in late August 2021.)
Kristina Dam Accessories
The modernist collection of minimalist accessories introduces new materials that widen both the tactile and functional palette of the collection. Materials include travertine, kelim, aluminum, and suede.
Let’s start with the functional Small Setomono Container Set. The set includes two stackable containers that can be stacked or styled wherever you like. Style it on open shelving, as shown here, or atop the Bauhaus Dining Table for house-dried spices, salts, or other small accouterments. These containers don’t have to be limited to dining, either––the minimal style is perfect for housing trinkets or jewelry on a bedside table. Each piece is made with high-quality stoneware with a matte finish ready to withstand washing and heat for years to come.
Kristina Dam juxtaposed travertine and sandstone to create a unique and sculptural candleholder. The Offset Candleholder Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 perfectly complement one another as an elegant tabletop statement, but can also be styled alone. We love the neutral tones that contrast the rough exterior, especially with the soft lighting of your favorite dipped wax candles.
The simple Suede Box in Large and Small also utilized natural travertine alongside suede. These beautiful containers can perfectly hold jewelry, office supplies, cotton balls, or anything else that could use a luxe small storage upgrade. Style them together or solo––it’s up to you!
Kristina Dam vases are always ready to be styled with fresh flowers or dried grass while also just as ready to be styled as a standalone sculpture. The Monolith Vase is the perfect example, with a concrete-like interior that provides a rough texture and an industrial look. Style it with the Small Monolith Vase for a striking vignette, or even add other Kristina Dam accessories like the Dome Vase or the Dual Vase. The beauty of Kristina Dam's designs is that they are made to work cohesively together in a minimal and modern interior.
Each year, Kristina Dam introduces a new sculpture to her collection driven by her appreciation of sculptural minimalism that merges art and interior design. This year’s Block Sculpture is an eye-catching accessory that is truly a work of art. Its sole purpose is to please the eye of the observer while adding a bold statement to your interior. The Block Sculpture will ship in late August. It’s shown here on the Pedestal Table, which provides the perfect place to display your most cherished pieces of art. Made with durable powder-coated steel, its base can conceal or prop up small accessories or candles and can work in a variety of spaces throughout the modern Nordic home.
The word lacuna means ‘unfilled space,’ which Kristina Dam perfectly embodies in her Lacuna Shape sculpture. Made with light grey sandstone, this handcrafted design has an organic look with carefully designed smooth and rough texture throughout. While considered a sculpture, the unfilled space can become a home for little treasures, too.
