Bergs Potter Handcrafted Terracotta Pots

Bergs Potter: Handcrafted Heirloom-Quality Terracotta Pots Your Plants Love

Add a touch of nature to every nook of your home––both indoors and out––with Bergs Potter. Since 1942, Bergs Potter has graced windowsills, gardens, and balconies with their durable, heirloom-quality plant pots designed for both indoor and outdoor use. From plant stakes to large pots, every Bergs Potter design is driven by the beauty of nature:

“We believe that living with plants improves the quality of life, and surrounding ourselves with greenery makes us thrive. For all those moments when we can’t be outside, surrounding ourselves with living plants indoors can be a wonderful alternative. But for the plants to make us thrive, they need to thrive too.”

The roots of the Bergs Potter company run deep. In 1942, in the throes of World War II, Victor Berg inherited a ceramics shop in Copenhagen’s Nørrebro district. He built Bergs Potter to fulfill his dream to bring more life and color into the lives of his fellow war-weary Copenhageners. As the brand describes on their website, “A lot has happened since 1942, but one thing remains the same: Plants make people thrive.

Bergs Potter pots are inherently natural; they are made with premium Italian clay fired at extremely high temperatures resulting in pure and raw terracotta pots that free of chemicals. The high density and mineral content of the clay give the pots the perfect balance of strength and porosity, allowing the pots to breathe––just like we do. This also makes them naturally frost-resistant!

“If your plants could speak, they would tell you that there’s nothing better than a quality clay pot. Proper drainage gives their roots room to breathe, and superior clay helps keep in the moisture they need.” - Steffen Berg

We love how the raw terracotta also ages gracefully, developing a beautiful patina over time.

“When the pot breathes, it can supply moisture and air to the roots, giving the plant the best possible conditions for growth. Terracotta is a porous material, and the evaporation of water through its pores helps maintain moisture levels and airflow, while the clay’s insulating properties help regulate root temperature.”

Københavner Pots

One of the first Bergs Potter pots, the Københavner is a noble pot inspired by pottery made in 1860 for the Fredensborg Royal Danish Palace of Fredensborg. It all started when founder Steffen Berg discovered beautiful old clay pots at a former nursery. His discovery, along with his own interpretation of royal pottery, came Københavner, which continues to be one of Bergs Potter’s most popular designs. It’s still made by hand in small family-owned pottery workshops. Københavner comes in three sizes, in raw or hand-glazed options, making it easy to find the perfect pot for your plants. The glaze colors are inspired by the colors of Copenhagen.

Cove Watering Tube

Cove is proof that a watering tube can be more than a functional element. This unique watering tube is inspired by the shape of the cereus cactus, a type of cacti known for remarkable water retention thanks to its thick, ribbed stems. Simply bury it partially in the soil of a plant pot, fill it with water, and let the water seep down to the plant’s roots. Cove’s porous structure means the water seeps slowly, maintaining consistent moisture levels to promote healthier plant growth.

Simona Raw Pot

Simona is an original design by Steffen Berg. He visualized its romantic shape while walking through the buzzy and breathtaking flea markets in the Montmarte district of Paris.

simona raw pot

We love how Bergs Potter describes the design inspired by the aesthetics of the old Latin Quarter:

“Our sweet Parisian 'femme' Simona has small pearls sitting neatly on a tight string along the upper rim. Adorned from every angle, she steps elegantly into the light, enhancing her beautiful and subtle details, ready to spread amour everywhere she roams. Since Simona is like a classic girl of Montmartre, one might doubt her interest in deep, saturated colours, but look again, and you will find her more glowing than ever with the thick glaze enhancing all her details. Mon amour, je t’aime!"
