Model 548
The Astep Model 548, originally designed by Gino Sarfatti in 1951, is a masterful study of balance and light reflection. Its adjustable spotlight directs light onto a reflecting screen, producing both diffused and reflected illumination. A large methacrylate diffuser—available in orange, blue, or white—enhances the sophisticated play of light, creating a dynamic visual effect.
The spotlight rests on a brass stem, balanced by a small counterweight at the base, highlighting the lamp’s elegant proportions. The modern reissue updates the original design with an LED bulb and a discreet optical dimmer, preserving its iconic form while enhancing functionality.

Founded by Alessandro Sarfatti, Astep is a design company born from a legacy of innovation, creativity, and respect for evolution. Astep continues a family story that began with Alessandro Sarfatti's grandfather, Gino Sarfatti, and his father, Riccardo Sarfatti—two visionaries who shaped the history of Italian lighting design.
Guided by the belief that progress is built one meaningful step at a time, Astep embodies a forward motion rooted in reflection. Alessandro recalls his father’s words—“We must work in all directions, and in each one find a small amount of innovation”—as both a principle and a promise. Every creation by Astep is a continuation of this idea: that evolution is not about radical leaps, but about the quiet pursuit of something better, something more relevant and enduring. At its heart, Astep bridges the timeless with the contemporary.
