CH47 Chair
The CH47 Chair was designed in 1966 by Hans J. Wegner as a version of the CH46 Armchair without armrests. Both chairs are related to the design seen in the 1965 CH44 Lounge Chair.
The CH47 design is simple and stylish with its woven seat and a solid wooden frame with rounded profiles. An important element is the curved hind legs which give CH47 a laid-back look. But more importantly, the curved legs are chosen to give the backrest the correct angle but also to ensure that the chair cannot fall backward.
In Wegner’s design of CH47, you can see how he has used his expert carpentry knowledge to create a sturdy chair. He has strengthened all the joints by displacing the rails and stretchers, ensuring that the dowels can be used at full height and maximum depth when inserted into the chair legs.
