spring cleaning the nordic way - loop hooks from normann copenhagen

Spring cleaning, the Nordic way

With summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to do some spring cleaning and organizing. That’s why we’ve gathered some of our favorite ways to make our space feel fresh and clean. From Scandinavian-scented household cleaning products to artful yet functional hooks, get inspired to refresh your space.

Humdakin Household Cleaners

Transform the everyday chore of cleaning into a peaceful and energizing ritual with Humdakin’s household cleaning products. Experience the scents of Scandinavia with easy to use, effective, and gentle on the skin household cleaning products made from ingredients found in Nordic nature.

For anywhere: The Universal Cleaner, together with the Spray Bottle, is the perfect all-purpose cleaner for all surfaces that can tolerate water, including painted, wooden, and ceramic surfaces.

For glass surfaces, Humdakin’s Glass Cleaner is allergy-friendly and free of any unnecessary chemicals, including ammonia. Plus, it has the fresh scent of Sea Buckthorn!

Continue enjoying the scents and aesthetic cleaning products in the kitchen with the Dish Soap and Hand Soap. Each comes in several different scent profiles.

In the bathroom, use the Anti Calc Spray to effectively and gently remove limescale from faucets, sinks, and tiles. Humdakin’s specially formulated Toilet Cleaner leaves your toilet fresh, clean, and nicely scented, without being an eyesore. We love how all Humdakin products can be left out as a beautiful decorative element.

Elevate your laundry ritual by using both the Laundry Soap and Fabric Softener to enjoy soft, easy to iron, and pleasant-smelling clothes and linens after every wash.

Trays

More than just a design element, trays are the perfect way to keep high-traffic areas clean and free of clutter.

Add structure to a surface with the Japanese Tray from Kristina Dam Studio. This beautifully designed tray is inspired by Japanese incense boxes from the Edo era. Use it for storage of everyday items on a kitchen island or entryway table.

With the Platform Tray from MUUTO, designers Sam Hecht & Kim Colin sought to create a design with duality by making it multifunctional: “it can sit on a table surface to hold your favorite objects, raising them up on a platform, or it can be picked up and used as a tray for moving elements from one room to the other. This collision of functions—a small table and a small tray—creates room for dynamic contexts as well as still life settings.”

Cast from recycled aluminum with a textured sand-like finish, the three Niche Pieces from Ferm Living are sculptural objects perfect for storing and displaying small treasures like jewelry or shells.

Baskets & Containers

Organize any space with these functional yet aesthetically pleasing baskets and containers.

Made from 100% recycled paper pulp, the Paper Pulp Boxes from Ferm Living are stackable and durable for storing accessories in an entryway, children’s toys in a playroom, or art supplies in a studio. The lidded box comes in a set of two, ready to stack and store where needed.

A classic design crafted from 100% recycled plastic, the Restore Baskets from MUUTO are the perfect functional yet stylish storage for everyday items. Use them for throws, toys, clothing, or anything else that needs organization.

Named after cala, the Spanish word for creek, Ferm Living's Cala Stackable Baskets work in a variety of environments, from the bathroom to the linen closet. Crafted from powder-coated iron, we love its distinctive metal spiral handle that makes it easy to move around as needed.

Making the everyday act of changing clothes a calming experience with Ferm Living’s Braided Laundry Basket. Made from natural rattan braided by hand, this extra tall basket fits seamlessly into any bedroom, bathroom, or closet.

MUUTO’s Sketch Toolbox references the simple architectural lines of a house, providing a home for sorting smaller items in the kitchen, craft room, or office. It is manufactured in Denmark with 100% recycled plastic and comes in several earthy and playful hues.

Ferm Living’s Grib Toolbox offers the same functionality in a more organic expression. Allow yourself to get creative with how you use it––anything from storing your everyday cleaning products to housing your gardening tools!

Hooks

Make the most of vertical storage space with sculptural hooks that look like an artful element when not in use.

Asshoff & Brogård collaborated with Normann Copenhagen to design the DropIt Hooks. This simple teardrop-shaped wooden hook is an expressive way to hang items on the wall. While we love it styled in a larger grouping, it looks just as good on its own.

Playful yet minimalist, Normann Copenhagen’s Loop Hook packs function into a hook that looks like an art piece when not in use. We love mixing various sizes and colors for a functional storage in an entryway, bathroom, bedroom, or even the kitchen.

Comprising three sticks, the aptly named Sticks Hook (also from Normann Copenhagen) offers a functional and decorative element. Belgian designer Benoît Deneufbourg drew inspiration from the angles, shapes, and space found in triangular roof constructions.

The Dots Wood Hooks from MUUTO are a friendly interpretation of the traditional hook with a truly sculptural look that can be arranged on a wall in endless ways for storage that looks beautiful when not in use.

MUUTO’s Attach Coat Hooks bring a refined yet sturdy perspective to the modern hook, according to Swiss designer Dimitri Bähler. “[It] arose from an interest in the meeting of two elementary shapes: a cylinder and a rectangular box. From there, the design was created by combining a simple wood cylinder with an anodized aluminum form, joining together industrial and natural materiality.”

This set of three mini hooks is part of Ferm Living’s Curvature series, which features hand-formed organically shaped home accessories. The whimsical curves beautifully juxtapose the solid brass material, offering the perfect way to hang everyday essentials.

These solid FSC™ certified oak hooks are part of Ferm Living’s Cairn series inspired by the man-made stacks of stones often used in memorials. We love their delicate, rounded edges and carbonized finish that work beautifully in a hallway, bathroom, or kitchen.

Lift your mood with the Happy Hook, a cheerful hook design from Fritz Hansen. Choose between two painted steel colors and a solid brass option to hang whatever you please.

Inspired by the back of an airplane, the aptly named Tail Wing Hook from WOUD casts a shadow that resembles the front of an airplane, turning into a dimensional art piece when not in use.

Aromatics

Smell is such an important part of how your home feels. Here are some of our favorite scents and methods.

Make your home feel warm, safe, and cozy with the elegantly packaged fragrance sticks from Humdakin. The Ivory scent shown here combines the earthiness of cedar with the freshness of patchouli oil. We love how it looks aesthetically pleasing on a shelf in a bathroom or anywhere else that could use a scent boost.

In addition to smelling good, candles add so much ambiance to a space. FRAMA’s Apothecary Scented Candles feature a variety of enchanted fragrances that feel welcoming, comforting, and familiar. Meticulously crafted in Italy, each candle is vegan, cruelty-free, and made from responsibly sourced vegetable oil wax with 100% cotton wicks for a clean burn. Some of the most popular scents include Komorebi, Deep Forest, and Beratan.

For a flame-free option, opt for FRAMA’s From Soil to Form Diffuser + Oil Gift Box, which naturally and gently diffuses soothing scents in a room, improving the purity of the air and sustaining ideal humidity levels. Simply put a few drops of the St. Paul's Essential Oil included in this aromatic gift set for lasting scent dispersal. We love how the gift box can be repurposed for storage elsewhere in the home.
