Meet Zieta Studio

Meet Zieta Studio

Zieta Studio views design as a prism to various disciplines, combining art with bionics, technology, and innovation to create unique forms and shapes inspired by nature.

Flat metal is inflated into three-dimensional sculptural stools and mirrors unlike any other, using a proprietary method called FiDU, from the German Freie Innendruck Umformung.

"We are fascinated by metal, which is why we trust it to deform freely. We look at its properties and study the force vectors. We design through process, allowing our proprietary FiDU technology to play a role just as important as the role of the designers themselves."

Zieta Studio is led by Oskar Zięta, an Architect, Process Designer, and Artist fascinated with reflections, colors, and shapes inspired by nature. The studio has won numerous awards, including the German Design Award and Red Dot Award.

"We create objects of desire out of metal. We deform it from flat membranes into three-dimensional forms. We give our objects a utilitarian dimension and still allow them to be art, a manifesto of our fascination with the material. These are sculpture objects, manifesto objects, objects for generations.”

"We see the importance of extending an object’s life cycle. We work with steel, copper, and aluminum—versatile and durable materials keen to last for generations. We constantly increase the percentage of recycled metal used in production."

Plopp Stools

The Plopp stools, which include a mini, standard, counter, and bar version, “is a manifesto of the FiDU technology and the controlled loss of control’ process.”

This iconic object is a flagship of Zieta Studio, proving how artistic aspects of a design can be brought to life through advanced engineering. Two ultra-thin steel sheets are welded together and inflated under high pressure, turning a flat piece into a three-dimensional object. A winner of the Red Dot Design Award in 2008, Plopp stools are as functional as they are artistic.

Zieta Mirrors: Mirrored dialogue with surroundings

Zieta Studio is known and celebrated for their vast collection of sculptural steel mirrors, with colorways that range from a deep cosmic black to a gorgeous gradient sapphire. Here, we’ll walk through a few different mirror designs, and take a look at the range of colors and forms.

Tafla O Mirrors

The Tafla O Mirrors feature organic shapes inspired by drops of liquid. Made of stainless steel, each mirror is polished to a high gloss, coming in seven different sizes and a vast variety of colors.

We love how they can be arranged together on a wall in an artistic composition, or simply use one for a single sculpture-like mirror accent. From private homes to restaurants and hotel rooms, Tafla O mirrors fit in a variety of spaces.

“They are destined to be composed into fantastic wall decorations—it’s up to you what kind of installation you create on the wall.” We love how each and every mirror is unique in its own way––”each convexity visible on this wall mirror’s surface is unique, because steel never deforms in exactly the same way.”

Tafla C Mirrors

The Tafla C Mirror series is an avant-garde interpretation of a drop of water. This mirror series features expressive contours that engage the senses, reflecting light in unique ways.

“These are stories about reflections, and stories of reflections in individual objects and constellations.” From Deep Red to a classic high-gloss polished Inox to intriguing green and blue gradient finishes, each Tafla C is the perfect complement to any space.

Sonar Mirror

This movable, standalone floor object is composed of three interconnected mirror panels, functioning beautifully as a partition/divider or simply a sculptural element. Considered “a wall of mirages,” Sonar beautifully reflects its surroundings and refracts light, resulting in interesting visual effects.

We love its grandeur and bold presence, which works just as well in living rooms and bedrooms as it does in hotel lobbies and lounges. It “is not just a mirror. It is a piece of space-defining contemporary design that reflects Zieta Studio’s technological and aesthetic experiments.”

Rondo Mirrors

The Rondo Mirror series explores the poetics of a circle, with surface irregularities that make each one unique. We love how its convex curves reflect light, bringing a new concept into any interior, public or private.

The Gradient options resemble a cosmic wonder, while the matte cotton candy palette has an entirely different presence. Regardless of the finish, Rondo is the essence of minimalist element.

Drab Mirror

The Drab Mirror takes the classic ladder frame to a new expression through Zieta Studio’s bespoke FiDU technology, bringing tiny convexities to an otherwise simple shape. We love it in a bedroom, bathroom, or hallway.

Oko Mirrors

Inspired by the organic form of liquid mercury, the glossy and lightweight Oko mirrors feature a a smooth but creased surface that “diffuses the surrounding reality and reveals psycho-perceptual phenomena of the material.”

These high-tech sculptural abstract mirrors show the true nature of steel, with a delicate structure thanks to the FiDU technology.

Oko “is at the same time a sophisticated futuristic sculpture, a distorted mirror, an intriguing decoration, a steel canvas where images appear and vanish at the same time.”

Nucleus Mirrors

With the Nucleus series, triangular shapes are juxtaposed to form an ideal circle. Its form was inspired by the cultural heritage of a nimbus, yet named after the cell structure of all living organisms.

“The juxtaposition of dynamic, even aggressive, geometric forms with the soft and regular shape of the circle creates a terrific effect.” We love all of the color options - “the result of Zięta’s experiments with applying layers of color coating on the surface of the polished steel. He managed to maintain the reflecting nature of metal and mix it with deep and strong colors."

Mercury Mirror

With the Mercury Mirror, 89 air-inflated, bulging, stone-like structures come together to form a disorderly circle. This 89-piece constellation of elements is reminiscent of a cell seen through a microscope, or liquid mercury suspended in space.

This minimalist and dreamlike mirror creates an otherworldly effect when hung on a wall.

“Each element suggests softness, and tempts the sense of sight, forcing the spectator of the light performance to take a different perspective on the surrounding reality. By creating and reproducing shimmering reflections of the surroundings, the object evokes cosmic impressions by generating serendipitous flickering effects around it. “
