Achille Castiglioni designed the AOY to make full use of the light that usually gets wasted on a lamp's stem. As an ode To Castiglioni's love for cats, the small opening at the bottom was intentionally designed as a warm resting place for a cat, while also offering visual distinction.
The clear glass cylindrical outer body features a white opal glass diffuser/reflector inside the cylinder's top part. Made from hand-blown glass, there are no metal pieces in the lamp.
